Repurposing isn’t lazy and it isn’t cheating. Repurposing is a cool way to take core concepts and ideas and disperse them across many different forms of media.
We tend to think of “repurposing” as being very utilitarian – very functional – and very efficient. And yes, while it definitely is that, I think seeing it that way is like surveying all the life on earth and simply saying its main purpose is to replicate or reproduce. And it misses the magic of creativity, connection, and relationships.
In this post, I’m going to share with you why embracing repurposing can be incredibly powerful for your business.
1. Visibility
In the online business world, visibility is a huge issue. There are so many people lighting up the space, sometimes it can be hard to stand out.
Imagine that you yourself are an idea colliding super-engine that synthesises stuff from your experiences, things you see and hear and read and through fusion creates a piece of content. You, are a star, and within you you have massive amounts of creative energy.
So how do you give yourself the very best chance of shining brightly? Of being seen?
Content is visibility in the online space. So, the more (quality) content that you have that accurately represents you and your business, the more visible you will be.
Repurposing helps you to create more content and therefore increases your chance of being seen.
2. Consistency
It’s not really enough to just spam the internet with random, half-arsed content, of course. Quality is also important.
One of the things that is great about repurposing (and doing it in a creative way) is that you create a consistent message across many different mediums.
When you have core content that you’re repurposing across many different mediums, you develop a reputation and become known for what you do and what you talk about.
3. It’s Smart
Having a repurposing workflow is a smarter, more efficient way to work. Not everything needs to be done with “blood, sweat, and tears”.
So, here’s how you make it work.
You chose your “core content” medium and try to pick something you enjoy doing – so whether it’s writing blog posts, doing podcasts, writing newsletters, or even videos. And make it your “core”.
Then, figure out how you can take that content and repurpose it into all your other mediums.
And this is where the power is. Core content is the content that you invest the most time and energy into creating so that you can repurpose it into many different forms. Just like the creativity inside you, your core content can act as the core of your content star. It has all the fuel to help you shine bright and visible.
Core content has to be powerful. It has to have enough substance, enough fuel to create all of your repurposed content too.
So, there you have it! The 3 reasons repurposing content is not lazy, but can be an incredibly powerful asset in your business
